Ah, here's where I put more about myself, I suppose!
Well, I am a lover of both Disneyland and SCIENCE. I guess you could say that I am from the school of rational, science-based philosophy.
I don't believe in anything whatsoever without hard evidence, when it comes to claims of things having an effect in the real world... and I am looking for someone else who has a similar outlook. If you are a person who lives in a delusional world of misconceptions and supports their beliefs with logical fallacies instead of reason and thought, we aren't a very good match. Period.
I don't do huge conspiracy theories (9-11, moon landing hoax, etc), I don't do "Alt-Med" (there is no such thing... either it's "Medicine", or "NOT Medicine" , vaccines don't cause autism, alien beings are not dissecting cattle or kidnapping humans, crop circles are made by awesome HUMAN artists with mathematical skills and a rope, "Quantum" means nothing to me unless it's being used by a mathematician, and claims of the paranormal are my particular specialty (I have never seen anything I would call a "ghost" or "spirit".
And yes, it's true... acupuncture does not work. At least, not any better than placebo when tested in double-blinded, placebo-controlled studies. Which means that it doesn't work.
Someone else has a profile on this site that says, "A lot of people think that it's quite a contradiction that I am a scientist, but love Disneyland", or something along those lines.
I don't see a conflict at all. Walt Disney was AMAZING. He wanted us to go back in time and see pirates... he wanted us to experience a haunted house... he wanted us to shrink down and enter the atom and learn about its structure...
How did he do this? He hired artists, architects, engineers, lighting specialists, magicians, and other professionals in many areas of expertise, and he BUILT those experiences for us. He created physical manifestations of wonderful imaginary people, places and things. And I think that his creation was the ultimate joining of the wonders of the imagination and the reality of science.
What a guy.
